Industrial visit to Central Prison, Poojappura
The main objective of the industrial visit was to have a good perception on the activities of prison from the social angle. The study tour was also utilized to have an understanding on the correctional services which were served to inmates of the prison. The prison started functioning in 1888 during the rulers of erstwhile Princely State of Travancore. The visits to the institution was very much relevant from the social angle as, a very calm and peaceful ambience was noticed in a place where persons punished for severe offences were housed. Instead of containing the inmates in cells all the time , they were allotted opportunity for prayer, education and work. A social goal of “reforming offenders” seemed to be the aim of the institution, by engaging them in activities, well within the limits of legal framework. The Apex Officer’s post-Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services was truly emphasised in the activities of the Central Prison, Thiruvananthapuram. The visit concluded at 5.30PM.
Industrial Visit to Aruvikkara Water Treatment Plant on 04-09-15
The main objective of the industrial visit was to have a good perception about the water treatment processes –which is an essential service. The study tour covered the 86MLD capacity water treatment plant, which is the single largest one in Thiruvananthapuram. At the end of the program, the students were enriched with a knowledge about the practical content of the activities.
Industrial Visit to Idukki Hydro Electric Power Project on 09th – 10th ,2015
The main objective of the industrial visit was to give the students a good perception about the hydroelectric projects in Idukki district which tops the engineering marvels in the history of Kerala. The study tour covered the three set of dams at Idukki, Cheruthoni and Kulamavu, the barrage at Bhoothathankettu and also the dam and powerhouse at Idamalyar. The study tour was also utilized to the visit a sustainably developed ‘Greenberg ecosystem’ in Idukki district. At the end of the program, the students were enriched with a knowledge about the practical content of what has been learnt from the academics.The visits to these massive engineering structures have been very interesting and informative experience for the Engineers corresponding to every discipline among us.. We express our sincere gratitude to our Principal who permitted us to go on the visit, our Co-ordinator for encouraging us, our faculties for guiding us and the other officials from the Kerala State Electricity Board for rendering full support during our visits to the dams and the powerhouse. We returned to the college in the evening of 10.10.2015 itself.
Industrial Visit to Peppara Dam on 05th November ,2015
The main objective of the industrial visit was to have a good perception on the functioning of the dam. The study tour was also utilized to have an understanding on the Interdepartmental Coordination between Forests Department, Water Resources Department and Power Department. At 11.00AM, the students reached the premises along with the Assistant Engineer of KWA. The activities were briefed by the Assistant Engineer.
